Recently, I just became a fan of the Nebraska Humane Society on Facebook. Since I used to live in Omaha, NE while I was going to school, I actually had a chance to visit the facility when I was thinking about adopting a dog. All the staff were very nice and helpful. I just wished that I could take all the dogs home with me (and other animals that were there for that matter).Then last week I saw that they are running out of dog toys to help with kennel enrichment. I actually understand that because both of my dogs Rascal and Darla were going through them like crazy. I just got them both new toys and 15 mins later, one of the toy’s arm came off! Then this is it…my moment to get involved! I always wanted to volunteer at the animal shelter but I think that I would come home with a new dog everyday. Since my husband and I live at a loft in Downtown, I don’t think that would work very well.
Inspired by one of my great friends (Jes) who once invited people over to make handmade dolls and donate them to childrens hospital, I thought that this would be fun to have people come together, have some dessert, coffee & tea, hang out and make some dog toys! All you do is show up and we will have all the supplies ready for you. Since Peach Mailbox Studio (& place to live) doesn’t have a big space to accommodate a large group of people, we will be inviting a small group of people (8-10 max) and hosting this party once a month! So if anyone is interested and would like to join us in some dog toy making for donation, please email me at gamie@peachmailbox.com. I will make sure to send you SAVE THE DATE card and the formal invitation with all the information. After the party, Peach Mailbox will ship the babies* that we handmade to the Nebraska Humane Society. We would like to donate babies* to other animal shelters as well so if anyone has any suggestions we would love to hear them.
