I had a pleasure to work with a very talented and sweet Emma Delf through one of my good photographer friend Henry Chen of Henry Chen Photography. Emma hired Peach Mailbox {Design Studio} to design her whole branding for her photography business which includes logo design, colors, and her website which will be launch real soon. So everyone stay tuned!

For our first meeting, I met Emma at her lovely home. We went over the colors that she absolutely love and things that inspired her. Then I came up with a few logo designs, color combinations and the icon designs. Above is the final logo design and branding colors. If you noticed the swirly icon above her logo, you will see the hidden of  Emma’s initial “ED”. I really enjoy working with Emma and I can’t wait until her website design are done and launch soon! Thanks so much Emma for this awesome opportunity and also special thanks to Henry Chen for recommended Peach Mailbox. Please contact Emma directly at 213.925.4280.

(I will be working with Emma on my new photoshoot for my new greeting cards collection. I can’t wait!)

Amazing Store in Belmont Shore

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

It is such an honor to have an opportunity to blog about one of my favorite stores in Long Beach, Blue Windows. Without Blue Windows, Peach Mailbox wouldn’t even be here today. I first found this amazing boutique shop when I used to work in Long Beach. I used to go there on my lunch break and walk around the store when I had a creative block (for a lack of a better word) and needed some inspiration. Then one day I had an opportunity to meet the owner of the store Heather, who is truly brilliant, creative and sweet. She has wonderful taste for style and as you can see below, her store displays are absolutely outstanding. Since I also used be a visual merchandiser for Restoration Hardware way back when (another retail store I worked at while looking for a full-time graphic design job). I really appreciated the work that she put into her store display and all the way down to signage.  It starts with the window displays, each and every corner of the store has its own theme and even customize ceilings displays. Five Stars in my book!!! I just can’t get enough of how creative Heather and her team is.

when I first designed my scented cupcake card, I went to Blue Windows and met with Heather. Back then, I only had 1 card! Now Peach Mailbox has over 100 greeting cards both scented and non-scented. If you have a chance to visit my website, under the about us page, it was Heather at Blue Windows who gave me my first opportunity and I will never ever forget that.

At Blue Windows, you will find all kinds of unique items that you never thought you needed until you see them and then you say to yourself “I got to have this”. Her jewelry sections are awesome blossom. I bought most of my jewelry pieces from Blue Windows. Let’s just say, I never walked out from the store empty handed. I found a lot of cute little items that made such perfect gifts for special occasions and/or just because. When I was there to take pictures of her store yesterday, I came home with a note book and heart shape hair clips. Confession, I would probably buy one of each item in the store if I could.

One of the things that Heather is doing right now that totally caught my attention are her monthly charitable donations. Each month, she picks an organization for her donation. I am all for that! I think that it is such a wonderful thing to give back to the community. For her January 2010 charity, Blue Windows donated 10% of the store’s profits to The Long Beach Rescue Mission and the month of February, 10% of jewelry sales will be donated to Hearts Without Boundaries. For more information about the orgazination and to follow Blue Windows’ monthly charitable donations, please visit http://bluewindows.net/journal/.

Thank you so much Heather for giving Peach Mailbox a chance and believing in my work. I’m so glad I had a chance to meet you and I’m so grateful everyday for this opportunity. Most of all, thank you so much for your generosity and for being who you are. we need more people like you in this world.

My First Custom Letterpress Piece

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I designed this wedding invitation suite set for Circle The Date at the end of last year. This was my first custom wedding invitations that was done in letterpress. All of my custom invitations prior to this were flat print. After I saw this piece in person, I wanted to have all my designs done in letterpress. I always have been a huge fan of letterpress but I have never seen my designs as such until now.

Love the details on the invite, patterns on the back and the matching color edging around the invite was the icing on the cake. All the pieces were hold together by the belly band. It was simple, elegant and sweet and I have to say (in my honest opinion), it will not have the same look and feel if this invitation was done in flat print. This may cost more than usual but when you see the piece in person, I promised…it was worthed! Thanks Amy from Circle The Date for having me designed this piece.

AP Consulting LA/A.T.F Event Project

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I can’t tell you how excited I am to have an opportunity to blog about a design I did for a company that I very much respect and give kudos to everything that they do. While working on growing my greeting cards business I also do freelancing on the side. The one thing that I’ve learned from my previous experience working at an ad agency as a graphic designer was that you need to be able to put your feet (both feet) in your client’s shoes and learn about their company and adapt to it. There are times that I can design projects in 1-2 hrs and wah lah…it’s done. There are also times where I find myself reading, reseaching and the project may end up taking 8-20 hrs or more. I compare myself to a camelion when I work on freelance graphic design projects because not everyone is going to want cupcakes or girly things.

AP consulting LA was looking for a tri-fold brochure, the invitation to the ATF Event insert, and also a spot for their business card. Knowing their branding from meeting with Josh and Stephanie (they are the core of the company), I had an idea of what they were looking for. So I put on a different thinking hat and start working. This project had a very tight deadline but we made it anyways. Team work, team work, team work. I love working for AP consulting LA. Always full of creative ideas, organize yet laid back, and most important thing they make it happens! It was such great pleasure to know them and to even working with them was just absolutely priceless. I hope everyone enjoy a different side of my graphic design work (besides cupcakes, flowers, and wedding invites). Thank you so much Josh and Stephanie at AP Consulting LA/Loft Seven for this awesome opportunity. The sky is the limit for both of you!

The Jonas Brothers…oh yeah, you heard me!

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

We celebrated Chris’ birthday yesterday. We decided to create a birthday card for him (since all my greeting cards are too girly for the occasion). My husband and I knew how much he loves the Jonas brothers (this is a sacastic statement). So we thought that this will be a perfect birthday card for him.  James thought of the Jonas brothers theme. He googled for the Jonas brothers image and I created a custom card just for the birthday boy. I added the photos of Chris on their sunglasses as the reflections, please ignore the quick photoshop work there. Chris loved it! Go team J+G! To all the Jonas brothers fans, please don’t be offended because I think my card may have change his heart. (*wink wink)

Bay-ba Ba-bey, ba ba ba ba-bay!

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I went to one of my great friend’s baby shower last weekend. I had a chance to meet her wonderful friends and for the first time at a place where I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t feel awkward. Everyone was very sweet and made you feel so welcome. I designed her a card to go with her gift. She is having a baby boy!!!! I barely attend baby shower because there were normally no baby showers to go to. But I enjoyed attending them ( for some reason, I always win the game). One of the fun parts for me (beside excited that my friend is having a baby) was to shop for a baby. Everything is so tiny, only wish I could squeeze myself in there. There are so many cute baby shops out there. When I found out that I am going to a baby shower….YES!!!…FINALLY I can go to these shops and look around and buy a gift. Here are some of my baby card designs from one of my collections. Enjoy!

Shhh….It’s a Surprise!

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

I had an amazing sweet friend who needed a custom invite for a surprise party. I can’t tell who, what, when and where until the project is completed. I am dying to blog about it. I just dropped off the Save the Date set and the invitation will be the next project. Since this is a surprise thing, I will not post the images until the invitations are all sent out or even after the party. Stay tuned for pictures!

Featured store { Lula Mae }

Monday, February 8th, 2010

I met Marci, the owner of Lula Mae while I was walking around Old Town Pasadena one day. When I first walked into her store, It felt like I was in a little world full of cute and amazing products. I didn’t want to leave the store at all. I literally can spend my whole day there. At that moment, I realized how great it would be if I could have her store carry my line of greeting cards. So, I asked her if I could set up a meeting. She was so nice and sweet and she gave me an opportunity that I will never forget. Since then, I’ve been working with wonderful Marci and I am so proud and honored to have my cards at Lula Mae.

Her store always filled with amazing products and some that I’ve never seen before. One of the things that caught my eye was a note book. The cover said “See you in hell….you heard me”. But the graphics were these cute little clouds, ice cream cones and lollipops. I giggled inside because I actually want one. The store presentation is brilliant and pure genius. She made these amazing ballerina’s tutu dresses, I just want to wear them around town. One of the things that sets Lula Mae apart from other stores is great customer service. Since I had my customer service training when I was working in retail I do notice that stuff right away. Pottery barn would give you 5 seconds to greet someone who walked in a store. Not sure if it’s that way anymore but I remembered those days. Lula Mae’s staff greet every customer right when they walk in the shop and that makes it such a wonderful experience to shop there! It is a warm welcome, no attitude like they are being forced to say hello. Just love it! Lula Mae has it all, great customer service, one of a kind products (even men find some of the products interesting and actually get a kick out of certain things. Especially the poo pourie) and that’s why it got voted as the best boutique in Pasadena.

When I was there last week to take pictures of the shop, I was so touched with what Marci had in one of the corners of her store. I’ve been thinking about it since then. There was a pink tree with all these heart shape notes hanging on there. It was a valentine’s wish tree! So you take a little blank heart shape note card that wete set in a basket (in front of the tree), write down a wish and then hang it anywhere on the tree. All I could think was, only Marci would think of this! I actually read some of the wishes and I had to hold back my tears. So I participated and hope that my special wish will come true. If you ever visit Pasadena, please stop by at Lula Mae. I promise you that it will be an unforgettable experience.

Marci, you are such a wonderful person and I am so lucky to have had a chance to meet you. It has been so long since I’ve met someone who is beautiful inside and out. I adore your creativity, wonderful sense of humor, flawless taste and I wish Lula Mae a great success!

Ring Ring Riiiinnnnnng….

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Rings are probably my favorite piece of jewelry. My eyes goes to rings first, then braclets (next weekend post) and then necklaces. Just love it! Although I can’t never find them in my size because I wears about a size 3.5 or 4. Yes, yes…it’s a big problem (ok…not really). It can be annoying sometimes but luckily, I am really close to the jewelry district and I finally can get all of my rings adjusted to fit my fingers.  Here are just some (and I mean a mini selections) of my favorite rings that I found… from vintage elegant (Jeanine Payer), interesting & unique pieces of art and yummy dessert piece (a mini cake roll). I saw some of them in person and just fell in love. Some were just from searching on Etsy. Lots of amazing stuff out there. Hope you like them!

T.Y.E.: Thank You Everyday

Friday, February 5th, 2010

What I learned from my wonderful host family when I first moved to Nebraska (to learn English) was sending thank you notes. Growing up in Thailand, we never really send out thank you cards. It was a new concept for me to adapt to in the beginning.  Boy oh boy…now I am all about sending out thank you cards. I am not going to lie and say that I keep up with my thank you notes regularly and never miss sending one out, we’re all human. That’s about to change, this year it is one of my New Year Resolutions to keep up with sending thank you notes right away. It is the best way to show how much you appreciate what other people have done for you. Trust me, when someone opens their mailbox and for once it’s not bills or junk mail and they see a nice envelope that stands out from others, addressed in their name, then they decide to open up the card, they will think of you! Below are some of my thank you cards from one of my collections. Enjoy and start writing! Happy Friday everyone!
